Part of the reason American students generally do not study in China is because of the language. Most Chinese students study English in school. The opportunities to study and learn Chinese is very limited.
This is great to see. A lot of what Allen says are things I try to communicate when I get the chance, such as in the rare opportunities I am interviewed by mainstream media, but they take out almost everything I say except for passing comments that are unintentionally controversial. I would add to the list of promising soft-power bridges Chinese science fiction, fantasy, costume dramas and martial arts, both in written and video series forms, a growing amount of which is available in English. I hope this interview is circulated widely!
